John Brandon Smith concentrated on the waterways of England, Scotland and Wales. He was particularly interested in the effects of cascading water. He was fascinated with the spectacle of rivers in spate. This led to him being known as 'Waterfall Smith'. Many of his paintings concentrate on the rivers of North Wales.
